About Us

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD

The Greater Cincinnati Southern Gospel Music Association is an organization born out the love of a type of music that is God honoring in every way. Southern Gospel music has always held true the message of God’s love to man shown by the death, burial, and resurrection of His only begotten son in the person of Jesus Christ.

Its harmonies reflect the oneness that comes through a born again relationship with Him. People of all nations can sing a united song of the blessed hope promised by God the Father to all of His children.

This music is truly unique and cannot be allowed to die. Our dream is to see it sung in every corner of the Greater Cincinnati community. It’s a music that is pleasing to the ear and transcends every culture. It holds a special place in our hearts and in our own personal testimonies.

Many of us can include the way Southern Gospel music has demanded our attention in our testimonies. How it has spoken to our hearts in a way that even an anointed preacher of the gospel may not. A good gospel singing can hold sway to the emotions and the sound gospel message of a song can expose us to our need of a savior. It is often the way God calls us to Himself. It is sometimes the tie that refuses to unbind itself from the heart.

Once truly captured that compassion seldom leaves thus our dream is to see it impact others as it has us.

We are looking for people who realize that preservation of this music genre is bigger than any single artist or group.

OUR STORY

Early in 2007, a few of the groups and soloists who were performing Southern Gospel music in the Cincinnati area discovered they had a common concern regarding this type of music. It seemed that interest was waning and it was becoming more difficult to find venues where Southern Gospel music was the feature presentation. Out of this lament, a desire to form an association in order to provide a combined format for generating the message that Southern Gospel music proclaims arose. That message being the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ and the comfort a personal relationship with Christ provides. With that thought in mind, the Greater Cincinnati Southern Gospel Music Association (GCSGMA) was born with the following charter members: The Harpers, The Murphys, New Harmony Trio, Anchored Fast, and The Ohio Valley Quartet.

GCSGMA then drafted a Constitution and filed it with the State of Ohio along with a mission statement. Over the years we have had our ups and downs. Two groups, New Harmony Trio and Anchored Fast, disbanded, The Murphys decided to devote their ministry exclusively their church, and The Ohio Valley Quartet changed their name to Work In Progress. Steve Wilson and Don Harper have alternated in serving as President and Vice President leading the association through several venues.

GCSGMA has sponsored the following events:

        • Monthly Friday night sings at McKelvey Road Baptist Church, Homer’s Buffet and Heaven Sent Event Center.
        • Various quarterly sings have been done in the Greater Cincinnati area as well as a cook out and a Gaither style concert
        • We have hosted a one-day vocal seminar conducted by Charles Novell on two separate occasions
        • We have also hosted a sound seminar to help artists improve their sound quality using their own audio equipment

GCSGMA continues to enlist local artists, churches and corporate sponsors to join us in our efforts to promote Southern Gospel music. We encourage all who have a love of Southern Gospel Music to reach out to us so that we may keep this type of ministry alive.
